Cracked or Broken Tooth

Immediate steps:

• Rinse your mouth gently with warm water to clear debris.
• Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek if swelling begins.
• If you can find the broken fragment, store it in a clean container and bring it with you.
• Avoid chewing on the damaged side.
• Call the office and ask for the earliest available slot.

Lost Filling or Crown

Losing a filling or crown exposes the underlying tooth structure, increasing sensitivity and risk of damage.

Suggested actions:

• Rinse your mouth and the lost piece (if found) to keep things clean.
• If you have the crown, you can try gently placing it back with dental adhesive or toothpaste—only if it fits securely and feels comfortable. Never use superglue or household glue in your mouth.
• Avoid chewing or putting pressure on that side.
• Contact our office as soon as possible to restore the tooth properly.

Sudden Toothache or Swelling

A sharp or persistent toothache—or noticeable swelling—may signal infection or nerve involvement.

What to do:

• Rinse with warm salt water (about half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) to reduce bacteria.
• Use over-the-counter pain relievers, like ibuprofen, as directed (unless advised otherwise).
• Avoid placing aspirin directly on your gum—it can cause irritation.
